DARTING superstar Phil Taylor loves visiting Bolton for the UK Open darts tournament – and it is hardly surprising with yet another title yesterday.
The 16-time world champion has now won the event on five occasions and appeared in tfour finals in five years.
Taylor, pictured, admits it is a unique tournament with several boards all in play at the Reebok on the first three days.
It can be a distraction but it does not take away the attraction for the darting icon.
Taylor told The Bolton News: “I love this tournament.
“The crowd are boisterous and noisy. The only problem is the other boards if you hear a big cheer, human nature is to look at what’s going on.
“It’s not annoying but you are naturally inquisitive.
“It’s a tough game out there.
“It’s a difficult atmosphere because you have other games going on.
“On Friday, Barney (Raymond van Barneveld) was on for a nine-darter so I was watching his game and it was my go, so you have to keep your eye on your own game.
“It is a short format and exciting.”
Dubbed “The FA Cup of Darts”, Taylor admits it is appropriate the event is based at a football ground of the stature of the Reebok.
And he hopes the next time he returns in 2014, it will be a Premier League stadium once more.
The 52-year-old from Stoke added: “It’s great to be at a stadium like the Reebok for this tournament.
“Bolton Wanderers are a good club.
“They don’t deserve to be where they are.
“They will be back next year I think; back where they belong in the top flight.”
