PROSPECTS of a Holcombe Brook one-two in Division One of the Men’s League were dented by a determined Lostock A.
The two Brook teams had not dropped a point in the first two weeks of the season but that changed when third-placed Lostock beat the B team 5-4 with Andy Westmoreland and John Nuttall winning their three sets.
Meanwhile, Nick Hinnigan – a former Hawkshaw player – led the way as Brook’s A team beat his old club 7.5-1.5 to open up a three-point lead at the top of the table.
In Division Two, unbeaten Leigh A lost 6-3 at home to David Lloyd (Bolton) A, who were helped by the three sets won by the pairing of Steve Smith and Dave Hampson.
Something had to give at Longsight where the unbeaten A team hosted Markland Hill A who, despite being without Phil Shacklady, romped to a victory to maintain their 100 per cent record, Pete Smith and Rob Allen taking the lone consolation set for Longsight.
At the top of Division Three, Lostock B just had the edge on hosts Walmer B, winning a close match 5-4 – the visiting pair of Norman Sudall and Colin Lynch taking the deciding set.
In Division Four, Winton maintained their 100 per cent record with a 9-0 win over Lostock C while previously unbeaten Claremont found themselves on the wrong end of an 8-1 scoreline, beaten by Ellesmere C led by young Lewis Potts.
At the top of Division Five, Markland Hill C and Lowton, who are playing under the banner of Leigh B, were on equal points having both won their first matches and then drawing against each other in the second.
Lowton retained their unbeaten record with a 6-3 win over Hawkshaw C, Louis Clementson and Andy Brown winning their three sets.
Meanwhile, Markland Hill C were playing host to Lostock D with Markland Hill cruising to an 8-1 win, Gary Lowe and Will Hart producing particularly impressive results.
In Division Six, Lostock E went down 6-3 to Walmer C, for whom Stuart Donaldson and John Biggins led the way and at the top of this division unbeaten Markland Hill D were playing David Lloyd (Bolton) D for whom Evan Holland and Graham Walton won three sets.
Roe Green A, the only team on maximum points in Division Seven, won 6-3 away to Elton B, who had two new signings, Neil Derbyshire and Craig Hallows on show.
In Division Eight, three teams were on maximum points. Two of those, Longsight C and Chorley C were pitched against each other.
In a close match, Longsight won 5.5-3.5, the only unbeaten pair of the night, however, being Trevor Norris/Chris Cowlin for Chorley.
The other previously unbeaten team were newcomers to the league, Markland Hill E, who were playing Roe Green B.
Markland Hill, with a 9-0 victory over the bottom team, retain their position at the top of the table.
