STARRING Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, this release means that the only Dr Who TV adventures not released feature the first two Doctors.

The Mind of Evil was originally broadcast from January to March 1971 and is a six-part adventure.

The BBC’s misguided decision to wipe many of their programmes meant that some of these episodes were unavailable in colour; however black and white copies were sourced and these have been ‘colourised’ to give us all six episodes in colour.

The Doctor and Jo Grant (Katy Manning) witness a demonstration of the Keller Machine at Stangmoor Prison – this machine can apparently treat hardened, violent prisoners and pacify them.

However, something goes wrong, and The Doctor suspects outside interference.

At the same time, peace negotiations are under threat after the death of a Chinese delegate whilst in the care of UNIT.

Of course, the two events are connected and the Doctor has to cross swords with an old adversary – The Master – intent on stealing a missile.

The story climaxes in a battle at the prison.

All the UNIT family are featured in the story, as well as Roger Delgado in his second outing as The Master.

The second disc of this two-disc set features a ‘making of’ documentary with contributions from the cast and crew.

This is made all the more poignant as both Nicholas Courtney (Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart) and producer Barry Letts are interviewed – both of whom have sadly passed away since the documentary was filmed.

There is also a look at the filming locations past and present, and a day in the life of BBC Television Centre filmed in 1971.
