HORWICH IT firm Imerja is reaping the rewards of working with the University of Bolton and North West hospitals.
Two new jobs have been created along with a successful student placement.
The Paragon Business Park firm has recruited university student Daniel Goodall part-time while he completes the final year of his computer network and security course.
It follows a 12-months work placement.
The firm has also recruited another employee following a new IT contract with Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Imerja has previously hired Bolton graduates and last year approached university course leader Colin Noon to see if he recommended any particular candidates.
Mr Noon said: “Daniel was part-way through his studies, rather than a graduate. Although we don't prescribe a year in industry, the opportunity for him to get hands-on experience was very much recommended.
“Students who enrol on our courses get tangible, practical opportunities, partly down to strong links with businesses like Imerja.”
Mr Goodall, a mature student, added: “Working at Imerja really opened my eyes and provided practical experience to frame my studies. The firm has been brilliant in organising a flexible working arrangement.”
He has been involved with projects including work for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Lambeth Council, and has worked extensively on Imerja’s IT service desk for customers.
Mark Evans, Imerja’s commercial director, said: “The University of Bolton produces graduates with relevant skill that can slot straight in to the work environment.
“As a student who was particularly excelling in his second year, we were more than happy to take Daniel on to help nurture his ability. More businesses should be turning to universities for recruitment. It's mutually beneficial. We can offer hands-on experience for students while also recruiting the best new talent.”
In another development, Liverpool Women’s Hospital has out-sourced its internal service desk to Imerja for all technical and clinical faults with the hospital’s IT systems.
If a problem arises, Imerja’s 24-hour service desk manages the issues.
Ian Jackson, Imerja’s managing director, said: “We’ve worked with Liverpool Women’s Hospital on a number of previous projects and are really pleased to have added this new strand to our relationship.”
