A MOTORIST was the victim of a terrifying car-jacking while he waited for his wife outside a shop The 55-year-old driver was threatened with a crowbar and a hammer by two masked robbers as he sat in his Honda Civic outside shops in Chorley New road, Horwich, near the Beehive roundabout.
They demanded he get out of his car and then stole it.
They fled in the car towards the motorway and officers are still looking for the car, the registration number is MK10 VFF.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, at 7.50pm on Monday, which lasted only seconds, to come forward.
Shocked neighbours described the robbery as “frightening”.
One, who asked not to be named, said: “I can’t believe that something like that has happened here.
“I have heard of a few of those sort of incidents recently, it is very frightening.
“I hope they catch the people who did this and that the victim is OK.”
Police are now warning people to take extra care when they are waiting in parked cars.
Det Insp Chris Walker, of Bolton North policing team, said: “This is certainly not a regular occurrence in Bolton. But it is a reasonably high value newish car and people need to have their wits about them.
“This could happen to anyone. It is not a targeted incident but opportunist thieves have seen him waiting and have used the cover of darkness.
“I want to reassure people that we are doing what we can. We are still looking for the vehicle and the offenders and if anyone has any information we urge them to come forward.”
Anyone with information should contact police 0161 856 5761.
