A SHOPLIFTER who assaulted a security guard has been jailed.
Andrew Gorman, aged 28, of Church Avenue, Daubhill, has been sent to prison for nine months after admitting a string of thefts.
Bolton Magistrates Court heard he also assaulted a security guard who challenged him when he was carrying six bottles of wine.
Gorman pushed Syed Hussain and twisted his armed at the Tesco Express in Wigan Road, Deane, on Saturday.
He pleaded guilty to assault and theft in relation to that incident, and two other shoplifting offences, one of which was at the same store, and the other at Aldi in Trinity Street.
On each occasion Gorman, who is an alcoholic, tried to steal alcohol.
He was in breach of a suspended sentence and Adam Whittaker, defending said his client need to go to prison to stay off the drink.
