A VANDAL high on drugs and drink smashed every pane of glass at the front of a bank, causing more than £5,000-worth of damage.

Andrew Warren, of Chorley Old Road, Bolton, told police he had come to Blackpool and had a “mad one” before attacking the bank with an iron grid cover.

Warren, aged 26, pleaded guilty at Blackpool magistrates to causing damage. He was sentenced to a 16-week curfew, from 6pm to 7am, 12 months supervision and must pay £1,000 compensation plus a £60 victim surcharge.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said that on March 3, at 6.15am, Warren went up to a passer-by, confessed to having smashed windows and glass in the door at Barclays Bank, in Cleveleys, and told him to call the police. Security measures, boarding up and re-glazing cost the bank £5,378.

Ms Smith said: “The defendant told police he had come to the resort with friends and had had a mad one, consuming large amounts of cocaine and alcohol. “He had no idea why he had gone to Cleveleys and there was no reason for him smashing the glass. He had not gone inside the bank.”Tony Slater, defending, added: “This took place as a result of the huge amount of drink and other substances he had.”

Warren had been a very heavy drinker, but gave up two years ago.Three months ago he broke his leg and could not do his job as a gardener, so he started drinking again.
