Harry Hill – Sausage Time

The Lowry, Salford Quays

AT one point Harry peered through his distinctive spectacles into the audience and shouted: “Don’t worry, it’s not a dream”.

The remark raised a big laugh, because presumably, many of us were thinking: “You could have fooled me.”

Harry’s comedy has always been at the very least off the wall and, for the most part, completely bonkers.

So as a giant sausage floated above the audience’s heads, following a segment in which Harry had unsuccessfully tried to drink a bucket of water while standing in a paddling pool, having removed his trademark shoes and replaced them with flip flops, I really was expecting to see audience members pinching themselves.

Although two hours of Harry’s unique brand of humour is perhaps a little over-facing, there was still much to enjoy.

The highlight for me was Mr Hill singing a song suggested from the audience (Bohemian Rhapsody in our case) in Tongan.

Harry is now hugely popular, thanks to the success of the brilliant series TV Burp – and his fans lapped up the lunacy.

Whether the unitiated found the two hours of random nuttiness as hilarious is a different matter.
