A REVELLER high on drugs and alcohol smashed every pane of glass at the front of a bank, causing more than £5,000 worth of damage, while partying in Blackpool.

Andrew Warren told police he had gone to the resort and had a “mad one” before attacking the bank with an iron grid cover.

Warren, aged 26, of Old Chorley Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was sentenced by Blackpool magistrates to a 16- week curfew from 6pm to 7am, 12 months’ supervision and was ordered to pay £1,000 compensation plus a £60 victim surcharge.

Prosecutor Pam Smith said on March 3, at 6.15am, Warren went up to a passerby, confessed to having smashed windows and glass in the door at Barclays Bank in Thornton, Cleveleys, and told him to call the police.

Security measures, boarding up and re-glazing cost the bank £5,378.

Ms Smith said: “The defendant told police he had gone to the resort with friends and had had a mad one, consuming large amounts of cocaine and alcohol.

“He had no idea why he had gone to Cleveleys and there was no practical reason for him smashing the glass.

“He said he had not gone inside the bank.”

Tony Slater, defending, said: “This took place as a result of the huge amount of drink and other substances he had.”

Warren had been a very heavy drinker, but gave up two years ago.

Three months ago he broke his leg and he could not do his job as a gardener, so he started drinking again, the court heard.
