YOUNG Wanderers forward Jack Sampson played for Tranmere’s Reserve team on Tuesday after joining the League One side on trial.
The 19-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the Whites after joining from Wigan five years ago when Wanderers beat off competition from some big-name top-flight clubs.
An England Under-19 international, Sampson has been out on loan at Southend during his time at the Reebok, and more recently this season under ex-Wanderer Leam Richardson’s stewardship at Accrington Stanley.
Now he could get a chance at Prenton Park, where fellow Whites forward Michael O’Halloran is currently on loan.
Sampson played the full 90 minutes for Rovers’ second string at Walsall in a 1-1 draw and went close to scoring when his late header came back off the bar.
And his trial is set to continue as Ronnie Moore runs the rule over the 6ft 2ins front man, whose 18-month Whites contract runs out in the summer.
