ASSISTANT Wanderers manager Lennie Lawrence believes the team will need to win at least five of their remaining eight Championship matches to have a chance of making the play-offs.

Defeat at Ipswich not only ended an eight-match unbeaten run but also saw the Whites drift five points behind sixth-placed Leicester.

It naturally makes the task of bridging the gap harder but Lawrence, who has more than 1,000 games under his belt in management, says it is not an impossible dream.

Lawrence told Talksport: “It’s difficult with eight games of the season to go, but it’s not impossible.

“We will have to win five or six of our last eight games.

“We’ve had that good run just at the right time which has got us on the fringes of it and now we have to make sure.”

The Whites are not in action this weekend due to the international fixtures so have to wait to get their promotion bid back on track at Lawrence’s old side Charlton on Saturday week.

But rather than rue the blank weekend, the Wanderers number two believes it may work in their favour.

He added: “This break has come at quite a good time for us.

“A few have gone off on international duty and a few need a few rest because eight or nine played virtually all the games in this good run.

“If we can come back refreshed and get off to a good start at Charlton when we come back, who knows what might happen.”
