A PARTY-GOER stabbed a man in the street with a kitchen knife, a court heard.

A jury at Bolton Crown Court was told Damien Baxendale took a kitchen knife from the home of the party host and used it to stab fellow guest Alex Hewson in the leg.

Rachel White, prosecuting, said Mr Hewson was out for the evening on October 12 last year when he bumped into Denise Davenport, Chelsea Heyes and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Baxendale.

Ms Davenport invited them back to her house for a party, which was attended by 15 to 20 people.

But at midnight she asked her guests to leave and two groups formed, walking towards Wigan Road.

Baxendale was with some men in the first group and Mr Hewson and Ms Heyes were in the second group.

In Addington Road, Mr Hewson and members of his group stopped to sit on the pavement and 10 minutes later they saw Baxendale and several others running back towards them.

“Damien Baxendale looked like he was being chased and had a large kitchen knife in his hand,” said Miss White.

She added that Baxendale began shouting, “I’ll kill you. I’ll stab you.”

Mr Hewson jumped up and Baxendale stabbed him in the calf before running off. He later needed stitches to a 4cm wound in his leg.

Ms Davenport told police she had seen Baxendale remove a knife from the knife block in her kitchen and had told him to put it back.

When questioned by police three days after the assault, Baxendale denied having taken her knife, claiming he had picked it up off the ground in self defence and the stabbing had been an accident.

Baxendale, of Briercliffe Road, Bolton, denies assault causing actual bodily harm and possessing a knife in public.

The trial continues.
