THREE mums are on a mission to help a little boy beat cancer.

Lamarno Healy, aged 11, was diagnosed with a brain tumour just after Christmas, on December 27, and has already started a gruelling course of treatment at Manchester Children’s Hospital.

But help is at hand for the Horwich youngster and his family thanks to the support of two fellow mums.

When Louise Jacobs and Sara Patel heard about Lamarno’s illness through a family friend, they decided to organise fundraisers for the children’s hospital and for his future care.

They have struck up a strong friendship with Lamarno’s mum Belynda Healy, aged 42, — dubbing themselves a “mums’ army.”

Mum-of-four Louise, from The Haulgh, lost her own baby son to meningitis in 1998 and said she wanted to help Belynda at this difficult time.

Louise, a dance teacher, said: “I lost a son to meningitis and I feel like I can relate to how she may be feeling.

“We’ve all become very close.”

Louise and Sara, a mum-of-two from The Haulgh, organised Lamarno’s Funky Girls Walk — a sponsored pub crawl with 60 people — and are already organising their next big fundraiser in April.

Lamarno’s ordeal started when he started having headaches and sickness on December 5.

His mum took him to the GP and was told her son may have norovirus.

Belynda, of Lee Lane , said: “It was such a shock when Lamarno was diagnosed.

“I’m still numb and just couldn’t believe it was happening.

“I knew something wasn’t right.

“His balance and concentration wasn’t right and he almost went into a baby-like state.”

The Rivington and Blackrod High School pupil was given a scan at the Royal Bolton Hospital where medics detected the tumour at the back of his head.

He was then admitted to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where he was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma — a malignant brain tumour.

After two operations to remove the tumour, Belynda was told the cancer had pread to his lumbar spine.

The little boy — who also has learning difficulties — is in the middle of chemotherapy.

Belynda added: “Lamarno has been really sensitive to the chemo but he is still as bubbly, cheeky and funny as ever.

“He’s such a character.

“The girls have been absolute diamonds and even though we didn’t know each other very well before, I don’t think I could go through this without them.”

Louise and Sara are holding a family fun night on Saturday, April 27 at the Holiday Inn in Bolton.

The event, called Let’s Kick It For Lamarno will start at 7pm.
