COMPANY bosses have revived a plan to demolish a factory and build 36 homes in its place.
In 2009, T Sutcliffe and Co was given permission by Bolton Council to knock down buildings at its site in Weston Street, Great Lever, where it builds pre-cast concrete garages.
The permission level was “outline”, meaning the company had to provide the council with further details about the scheme before work could begin.
But it did not do that by the 2012 deadline, so the permission expired.
However, the company has now asked the council if it can have more time to file the right papers, which means the project could now become a reality.
In 2009, one person objected to the application.
Their letter read: “The area is built up with surrounding businesses and Weston Street has a lot of traffic congestion already, especially since the addition of the Asda supermarket (in Manchester Road) and the other shops on the previous site of Burnden Park.
“The houses will bring a large increase in traffic in Weston Street and will bring a big increase in noise and disturbance affecting our quality of life.”
At the time, the council’s planning officers advised the planning committee that it had no concerns about traffic or anti-social noise.
A spokesman for T Sutcliffe and Co said the firm was unable to comment at this stage.
A report from the firm in 2009 said: “The business employs 10 people. The intention is to relocate the business to more suitable premises in the Bolton area.”
The council is aiming to reach a decision on the time-extension application by June 3.
