WANDERERS will not rush into the loan market to boost their play-off push.

Although an enquiry for Fulham midfielder Kerim Frei has been rebuffed and interest in Leicester winger Jeffrey Schlupp remains an outside bet, Dougie Freedman will not hit the panic button.

In fact, the Whites boss believes he may have to wait until after the trip to Ipswich next Saturday before he is able to add a couple of extra bodies to his squad.

Freedman has made no secret of his need for extra pace up front, or a midfield goal-getter to help ease the loss of Mark Davies and Keith Andrews.

But the Scot will not be forced into signing Premier League fringe players just to make up numbers.

“I am not one for flexing my muscles and just going getting two or three bodies,” he said. “I have seen teams round about me try that exercise and I don’t think it is the right way to do it.

“I know the targets I want to get. If they become available I will be in with a fighting chance. If they don’t then I have got players here who I believe are good enough.”

Freedman regrets the lack of chances given to his most recent loanee, Steve de Ridder, who failed to build on an encouraging start to his Wanderers career after arriving from Southampton on deadline day.

“Circumstances dictated we played a certain shape and he is an out and out winger,” he said. “I couldn’t play that way just for one player.”
