BUDDING artists from five primary schools showed off their creative talents with an art exhibition at Bolton School.

Pupils from all age groups were invited to get their creative juices flowing and create artistic masterpieces as part of the inaugural Celebration of Art competition.

Parents, pupils and teachers then enjoyed a selection of the imaginative pieces in an exhibition at Bolton School’s arts centre.

Youngsters from St William of York RC Primary School in Great Lever, St Philip’s CE School in Atherton and Blackrod Primary School took part, along with Fox Wood School in Warrington and Whittle-le-Woods CE Primary School, near Chorley.

Blackrod picked up the award for the best display at the exhibition with their life-size illuminated igloo made out of plastic milk bottles and recycled material.

It has won an art workshop at the school given by Bolton School Boys’ Division art teacher Margaret Ryder.

She said the exhibition, under the theme of What A Wonderful World, had been a great success.

“The event was everything I had hoped for,” she said. “It provided an opportunity for local schools to show their stunning artwork in an exhibition setting.

“I was delighted to be able to award art equipment, books and a practical session with myself to inspire future artists.

“It is an important subject for so many and it should be celebrated.”

There were also four individual category winners, with each receiving an art folder full of goodies.

Every child whose work was exhibited took away a book about art.

The event also displayed an exhibition of GCSE and A-level artwork produced by Bolton School students as well as a series of workshops conducted by sixth formers.
