A MAN has admitted a knife-point raid at a newsagent’s shop.

Stephen Johnson, from Atherton, who appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on crutches, admitted the attempted robbery of cash but denied possessing a knife.

Harry Pepper, prosecuting, told the court that the crown would not be pursuing the knife offence as it was an integral part of the other charge.

Also in the dock was Zach Porter, of Canterbury Close, Atherton, who denied the same attempted robbery charge involving Mohammed Patel in Bolton Road, Atherton, on February 19.

Porter, aged 18, was remanded in custody to await his trial beginning on August 5 and Johnson, aged 20, of Carr Bank Street, Atherton, was also remanded in custody and will be sentenced after his co-accused’s trial.
