OSCAR-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, has been named among the 50 best British films ever made.
Veteran film critic Barry Norman put together a list of his top 49 British films and asked readers of the Radio Times to pick the 50th.
More than 500 different films were suggested by thousands of people and he chose Slumdog Millionaire to add to the list.
It beat off competition from the likes of The Italian Job, Brassed Off, Hobson’s Choice and Oliver.
Among the top 50 British films in Mr Norman’s list were A Clockwork Orange, Four Weddings And A Funeral, Monty Python’s Life Of Brian and Gladiator.
Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of a Mumbai teenager who takes part in television contest Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
It was directed by Danny, who grew up in Radcliffe and attended Thornleigh Salesian College, in Astley Bridge.
Slumdog Millionaire won seven Oscars, including best film, as well as enjoying success at the Golden Globes and other awards ceremonies.
