A BRAVE youngster is cutting off her luscious locks for charity.
Fifteen-year-old Lucy Hargreaves, from Westhoughton, plans to cut off all her long hair for Cancer Research at the end of the month.
Lucy, a pupil at Canon Slade School, in Bradshaw, said she was inspired to do her fundraiser by pop star Miley Cyrus, who shaved her head last August.
Lucy, who is in Year 11, said: “I’m going to cut it as short as I can without shaving it off — that wouldn’t be allowed in school.
“I thought it would be a good idea after I had been watching a programme on Comic Relief. Miley Cyrus shaved nearly all of her hair off and I just thought it was a good idea.
“It’ll be more of a pixie crop but I’m still really nervous about it.”
Lucy has already raised £300 but is looking to boost her sponsorship before she goes for the chop at the Yvette Connor Hair Studio in Daisy Hill.
Her proud mum, Lorraine Hargreaves, of Bromford Close, said: “Obviously we are all very proud of Lucy for what she’s doing.
“She’s never had short hair before so it’ll be interesting to see what it looks like.”
Lucy will have her hair cut by hairdresser Rachel Johnson on Saturday, March 16.
