BRING on Brighton – that’s the rallying call from derby hero Chris Eagles as he looks ahead to Wanderers’ biggest game of the season so far.

The midfielder grabbed his eighth goal of the campaign to take a priceless three points on Tuesday night against Blackburn Rovers, putting the Whites tantalisingly close to the top six.

After the frantic celebrations that marked his 93rd-minute strike, Eagles admits he would like to get the job done earlier against Gus Poyet’s high-fliers.

“You can’t describe the feeling of doing something like that,” he said. “As long as you pick up points it doesn’t matter who scores but it was great to get the winner, especially at home. It gives everyone a boost and the fans were brilliant.

“But Brighton are probably the best team I’ve played against away from home this season but hopefully they’ll come here and we’ll bring our attacking side to them.

“We’ve got to make sure we take our chances early because the quicker we score, the better it will be for us and the more confidence we take.”

Dougie Freedman believes Eagles has now recharged his batteries after a spell out of the side through illness and a slight dip in form since Christmas.

“If you know Chris, he is never low on confidence,” he said. “I felt he played fantastically well for us at the beginning of the season and like most players in this division, they have little dips in their energy levels.

“Chris’s quality is always there but I felt we had to give him the best opportunity to do his magic.

“That isn’t playing Chris Eagles every week. It is selectively when you play him. “Chris is a player that has got that magic bit of dust. I said it last week. The sooner people start believing around here the better.

“I told you he is a special player because I see him every day. I want to spread that news. He lost a bit of energy through week in, week out playing.

“But he has freshened up and when he came on (against Blackburn) he produced that little spark we needed.”
