UNCERTAINTY surrounds the future of another high street store in Bolton town centre following claims the company which owns it has gone into administration.
Staff at Textiles Direct in Newport Street say they were told on Friday morning that the firm had gone into administration and their jobs were in jeopardy.
The Bolton News attempted to contact the firm, which has about 60 stores in the North of England, but nobody was available for comment.
The firm sells goods including curtains, towels and bedding and the Bolton branch employs seven staff Store manager Sandra Speakman, aged 62, has worked at the shop for 17 years.
She said: “I was told by the area manager. Quite a few of the staff have been here a long time and it was hard telling them. We’re all shocked.
“We’ve had a feeling for a while now that something was amiss because we haven’t been getting restocked as normal, but this time of year is quiet anyway.
“There aren’t a lot of shops in Bolton that sell these kinds of things.”
If the shop does close its doors for good it will be another blow to town centre retail and the latest store in recent months to disappear.
Bolton recently lost all of its Blockbuster stores after the chain went into administration and photography store Jessops, which was also based in Newport Street, closed.
