WANDERERS boss Dougie Freedman will give goalkeeper Adam Bogdan every chance to prove his fitness ahead of tonight’s derby clash with Blackburn at the Reebok – but admits he remains a big doubt.
Freedman revealed after the weekend win at Barnsley that the 25-year-old has a slight groin problem, and while it is not considered serious, it did trouble him enough to let his defence take goal kicks late on.
The youngster had a precautionary scan yesterday, but Freedman says he will wait until the last minute tonight before making the big call whether to leave him out and hand Andy Lonergan his Whites league debut.
Freedman said: “Adam is struggling a little bit. He had a scan yesterday to make sure there is nothing more serious – the medical team are pretty sure there’s not.
“It is my call on this one because he is just feeling his groin through playing a lot of games and it is a bit of fatigue.
“It is up to me to see where we are with it.
“I will talk to Adam and make a decision as late as I possibly can.
“He felt fine on Friday and did kicking in training but he felt it towards the end of Saturday’s game.
“With a bit of rest I am told he will be fine but I will assess him maybe as late as 6.30pm to see how he is.
“He may even have a little test like we did with Chungy last week to see where he is with kicking because that is the concern.”
One man who will not figure tonight, however, is Tyrone Mears who remains out of contention with a blood infection having missed the last three matches.
“He feels weak at the minute and not physically right in training,” said Freedman.
“I need to be guided by the medical team on it but he remains out.”
