IT sums up the defiant mood in the dressing room at present when even the quiet man of the pack is prepared to talk play-offs after Saturday’s battling 3-2 win at Barnsley.
David Ngog doesn’t do sweeping statements or inspiring speeches but his tireless running on the pitch is doing the talking for him.
The Frenchman also had a goal to cap his considerable efforts at Barnsley, where Wanderers secured victory to maintain their current momentum.
Where this run, of six unbeaten so far, will lead, with just 11 games to go, is anyone’s guess.
But Ngog reckons we will have a much clearer picture in a week’s time after home games against Blackburn Rovers and Brighton.
“I think we can get closer (to the play-offs) and we still believe in it,” the striker said. “Blackburn is a hard game but we are working hard as a team and we’ll be doing everything to get the win.
“Brighton are a good team too and we know their quality but we have enough to match them.”
“I think the team understand each other better. The work in training has been good and now it is starting to happen on the pitch. We have a resolute spirit and we have to keep doing it.”
Ngog’s goal at Oakwell was his sixth of the season and came a week after heavy speculation that his services were being sought by Ukranian giants Dynamo Kiev.
After that dalliance disappeared as quickly as it had arrived, the former Liverpool man – who had no comment to make on recent reports that he is about to switch international allegiances from France to Cameroon – is now looking forward to the future. “When I have a chance in the team it’s good to get a goal,” he said. “And I hope I can make a difference.
“This was a good win in a very hard game.
“I am used to playing with two strikers and we have some very different types of striker at this club so we can play different ways. I think Craig did a good job for the team and worked hard.”
