STARRING Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, the DVD of this adventure was first released in 2012, but has now been enhanced and remastered using the latest techniques.
Originally aired in early 1975, this was the second story to feature Baker as the Doctor who is already beginning to get into his stride as one of the most popular Doctors.
Along with Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) and UNIT Medic Harry Sullivan (Ian Marter – who also wrote the novelisation of the story), the Doctor arrives on a seemingly deserted space station.
The trio soon discover that the station contains the last survivors of the human race in suspended animation, and also comes up against the Wirrn who are attempting to take over the earth.
The extras that were contained with the original DVD release are still here, along with a host of new ones, filling up two discs.
Featuring interviews with cast members and crew, A New Frontier is the ‘making of’ documentary, and there is some footage of Tom Baker visiting Northern Ireland.
A new series of documentaries under the banner ‘Dr Forever’ makes it’s debut here with a long overdue look at the Dr Who novels that were produced during the time when the series was off-air. Interviewees include Russell T Davies, Paul Cornell and Mark Gatiss, all of whom began by writing some of the novels and who later wrote for the TV series itself.
Finally, there is a seventy-minute version of the story, edited to a movie.
