GREGG Wylde reported back for training at the Reebok this morning, but not for long after quickly extending his stay at Bury for an extra month.

The 21-year-old Scottish winger signed off his previous month-long loan at Gigg Lane with a man-of-the-match display in the Shakers’ 2-2 draw at home to Shrewsbury on Friday night.

But the former Rangers midfielder admitted after the game that the Bury management were holding talks with Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman over plans to extend his stay.

And that deal was sealed earlier today, with Wylde now going back to Bury for at least another month.

Wylde has not given up hope of a long-term role with Wanderers, but appreciates his lack of first-team action over the past nine months may rule him out of Freedman’s short-term plans.

The pacey young winger is yet to play a first-team game for Bolton after arriving on a free transfer in March.

It was assumed Wylde would be in Owen Coyle first-team thinking after his protracted move was finally given international clearance in the summer, but he found himself demoted to the development squad. And current Whites boss Freedman was happy to let him go out on loan when he took over at the end of October.

After looking short on fitness, he has slowly come to the boil during his four games at Bury, and was finally starting to show the form that earned him seven under-21 caps for Scotland at the tail end of the loan.

“I’ve enjoyed it, really enjoyed it, that’s why I want to stay (at Bury),” said Wylde.

“It’s been a tough year for me, but since Kevin Blackwell has brought me here and I’ve played a few games, I’ve enjoyed getting back to playing football and doing what I love doing.”

With games under his belt, Wylde is now eager to show Freedman what he can do, but is more than happy to do that in a Bury shirt for the remainder of the season.

And he added: “I have to ask myself, rather than the manager, why I’ve not been involved.

“Hopefully I can improve and prove myself to him, I just need to get my fitness up and we’ll take it from there.”

Wylde will now stay at Gigg Lane until at least the end of January, and will be available for selection for Boxing Day's derby clash at Preston.
