A man was injured during a large brawl outside a bar in Oldham town centre.
A large-scale fight took place between around 20 and 25 people outside the Vogue bar on Yorkshire Street shortly before 2am on Friday.
One group of them chased another group down the street and subjected one 21-year-old man to an attack, kicking and punching him as he lay defenceless on the road.
He suffered head injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Sergeant James Sweeney, of Oldham CID said: "This was an appalling incident of disorder. The violence lasted for about 10 minutes, but was intense and must have been frightening for anyone who saw it or who was caught up in it.
"Many people who were on the street had to take evasive action to avoid it.
"Greater Manchester Police is committed to tackling anti-social behaviour through to serious and organised crime and additional officers will be on the streets to take a robust approach with any further disorder in the area.
"We're doing all we can to trace who was responsible that night, but we need your help. If you saw anything or you know who was involved, please call us."
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Oldham CID on 0161 856 8951 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
A 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been charged with affray and are due to appear before Oldham Magistrates' Court on December 16.
