Police are appealing for the public's help to identify a man found collapsed in a road in Bolton.

Shortly after 3.05am on Wednesday 12 November 2008, police were called to Halliwell Road, Bolton, following reports a man had been found in the road.

The unknown man was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

He is described as white, aged between 45 and 50 years old, 6ft tall, of slim build and with dark, thinning hair. He has blue eyes and was wearing a red and black Helly Hansen jacket, blue jeans and Nike trainers.

Detective Sergeant Michael Gladwin, from Bolton CID, said: "This is a very difficult inquiry as we do not know who the man is and at this stage are unsure how he came to be injured.

"I would appeal to anyone who may know who this person is, or who may have been in the Halliwell area last night and seen anyone matching the description of the man to come forward."

Witnesses are asked to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 5740, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
