Detectives have released footage of a horrific attack in a bid to trace two thugs who left a teenager injured in the street.

The 17-year-old victim was brutally assaulted in Oldham town centre following a night out on Saturday 4 October 2008.

At about 2.30am on Sunday 5 October 2008, police were called to Yorkshire Street and found him lying on the ground unconscious with serious head injuries.

The victim spent three days in hospital and has now made a full recovery. He cannot remember anything about the attack.

CCTV footage revealed the victim was assaulted by two men. They punched him to the ground, kicked him and stamped on his head.

The two offenders were with two women and all four got into a taxi. They were dropped off on Victoria Street, Chadderton.

The attackers are described as both white. One was stocky with short hair was wearing a light T-shirt with a dark motif. His accomplice was slim and was wearing a dark T-shirt with a light design on the front.

Detective Constable Craig Morgan, of Oldham CID, said: "For no reason, this young man was set upon and subjected to a savage and sustained attack.

"Fortunately he has made a recovery, but the outcome of the attack could have been far worse.

"We're doing all we can to try and trace these offenders, but we need your help. Did you see this attack? Do you know who these men are? If you do, you must call us.

"I'd also like to appeal to the two women who were there to call us. They witnessed this assault and must know who's responsible for it."

"We will treat all information with discretion."

Anyone with information should call Oldham CID on 0161 856 8951 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
