A LISTED former old people's home is to be turned into nine apartments after plans were backed by councillors.
Haulgh Cottage, in Radcliffe Road, The Haulgh, closed earlier this year after being blacklisted by Bolton Council following an inspection.
The Government's Commission for Social Care Inspection team found some of the 39 residents sitting in stained clothes, while a lack of activities and a dirty kitchen were also criticised.
The Grade II listed building was bought by Chorley-based Farr Horizon Developments, which has now been given the go-ahead to convert it into one and two bed apartments.
The external appearance of the building will be largely unaltered, although a single storey extension deemed "unattractive" will be removed.
The building, which dates to 1836, was first used as a hotel and then a riding school, before conversion to a care home in 1984.
