AN ASPIRING author has had his first book published — and cannot wait to start the next chapter in his life.
Ex-fitness instructor and gym owner Adam Spaven, aged 28, from Breightmet, has written Upon Reflection which he hopes will close the book on a part of his life he wants to forget.
And having moved out of the fitness industry after the economic downturn, he hopes to forge a new career and looks forward to the birth of his first child — a son — who is due on New Year’s Eve.
The book follows ‘Danny’ and a battle with his ego which plays out in violent and even murderous ways.
Mr Spaven, who is training to be a supervisor at Westhoughton Co-op, said: “It is like a diary of your ego. He discovers his reflection and the ego is trying to take charge of his life.”
He said the book reflects a difficult and emotional time of his own life but his partner Lisa was the inspiration to have it published.
Mr Spaven said: “I have had no contact with my father for 20 years. My last memory of him was him in a pub, playing a fruit machine, with a pint in one hand and a cigarette in the other. It wasn’t a place for an eight-year-old.
“I took all my anger and wrote it down and started finishing one chapter at a time. This book has brought it to a conclusion — my next one won’t be anything like it. Now I just can’t wait for my son to be born.”
Upon Reflection is available online at Waterstones and other major book shops.
