A former pub building along with open land  across Bolton is set to be sold by Bolton Council in a bid to relieve some of the strain on its budget.

The 12 sites to be put on the market include a car park, some garages, two properties and an old pub, as well as multiple patches of open land.

According to a report for consideration by Bolton Council cabinet member for regeneration Adele Warren on Monday (February 20), the disposals of these dozen assets are important to the budget in terms of both capital and revenue, as it creates income in the short term and cuts costs such as maintenance in the long term.

They are set to be sold by auction or private sale after the move, a part of the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), was approved by Cllr Warren.

A council spokesperson said: "As a part of our SAMP, we carried out a review of council-owned land and identified sites which could be sold to support valuable frontline services. 

"SAMP disposals are an open and transparent process. 

"Before any land is listed for sale, the local ward members are consulted, and strict criteria are applied to ensure the income received far outweighs the benefits of retaining the land. 

"This includes making sure there are suitable alternative sites in the local area for residents to use.

"A guide price is set to ensure the council receives a fair price on behalf of our residents, while the existing planning process will prevent any inappropriate development on the land."

The 12 sites include a car park on Higher Bridge Street, some garages on Firwood Fold, two properties on Firwood Fold and Victoria Grove and what was The Withins Public House.

There are also multiple patches of open land across Blackrod, Daubhill, Farnworth, Great Lever, Halliwell and Horwich.
