A reader complains that GMPTE held a Local Transport Public Forum in the morning at Manchester Town Hall, meaning that people working in the daytime could not attend ("Let's work together for better buses", Bolton Evening News January 12).
The meeting referred to was arranged by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority specifically to consult on the new concessionary fares scheme that will come into effect on April 1 and extend free off-peak bus travel to disabled people and those aged over 60.
Experience shows that people in these groups prefer to attend meetings during the daytime. Transport Forums have been arranged in the evenings in the past supported by good publicity but were much less well attended than normal, whilst not attracting newcomers.
However, the forums are complemented by a wide range of consultation activities throughout the year including ongoing outreach work with youths and regular dialogue with the business community.
In addition, we recognise that time is at a premium for working people so we provide a range of other options to comment on public transport by internet (www.gmpte.com/comments ), comments cards (from GMPTE Travelshops and other outlets) and by letter (Customer Relations, GMPTE, Freepost MR7 116, Manchester, M1 9QL).
