TEACHING under-11s about using podcasts and the internet might be more in keeping with today’s jobs market, but at what expense to their general education?

Technology is a wonderful thing and can certainly enhance the basic skills of literacy and numeracy, but it definitely cannot replace them.
There is a real danger of moving away from such vital learning simply because it is “traditional”.
No-one is allowed to criticise the god Technology these days but it is more important than ever to keep a sense of proportion about its use. Children are already writing and speaking in text, communicating via mobile phones and computers rather than socialising.
Without a sensible approach here, they’ll become reclusive individuals without an all-round education to properly equip them for life.
