I AM the parent of two children who attend Sharples High School and High Lawn School who were forced to have two days and one day off from school respectively last week due to the weather conditions.
On Tuesday, they were informed the schools were closed on the way to school, due to some teachers not being able to get into school.
I saw the weather forecast the night previous and set off to work one hour earlier in the morning to try and get to work on time.
I wonder if the teachers made any provisions for the bad weather?
My eldest child was informed on Wednesday, while at Sharples School, that it would be closed on Thursday due to the weather forecast predicting heavy snow, but this did not happen.
I just hope that doctors, nurses, emergency services and industry do not adopt the same approach that teachers did last week.
Will the teachers now cut short their holidays by two days to make up for the lost education of the pupils? Somehow, I don’t think so.
By acting in this way do they not realise the implications their actions have on families who have to make arrangements for child care and possibly take time off work (without pay) to look after children?
You try and take your child out of school for one day during term, it is extremely difficult, yet when bad weather is forecast the schools are closed without second thought for all the inconvenience that this causes. Come out of the school gates teachers, there is a real world out there!
