WE are being asked to vote on the Transport Initiative Fund and, surely, before being entitled to vote on the question of congestion charging, two preliminary questions should have been asked, namely: l Do you work in Manchester?
l Do you use your car for work?
If the answer to the above questions is “yes”, then you should be entitled to vote for or against the congestion charge.
If you do not use your car to travel into work in Manchester, ask yourself if you are prepared to impose what is in effect an additional tax which could cost your families and friends in the region of £1000 per annum.
In addition, is this not the thin end of the wedge, with the charge ultimately being introduced to cover the major arterial routes into Bolton?
I shall be voting against the charge.
