IN reply to Brian Derbyshire’s comments on bad tenants (November 29), does he seriously believe that a landlord would rent his property to someone who is going to wreck it and cause problems for neighbours?
The problem is how do you tell a bad tenant until they have moved into the property? They don’t come with labels reading “good” or “bad”.
Mr Derbyshire also did not mention the great difficulty a landlord can face in getting rid of a bad tenant. Laws are all in favour of tenants.
As landlords, my husband and I fully support Mrs Kearns’ statement that more should be done to help landlords.
Since the new legislation came into force in April, we have lost £1,000 in rent, because people have claimed the rent and then vanished.
Mr Derbyshire writes on many topics — but on this occasion I feel he should really stick to those on which he has at least a little understanding.
