May I comment on the recent letters about snow from angry commuters?

Do these people have any common sense or logical thought when it snows?

It’s a simple equation of light ice crystals on top of heavy salt grit. Like most things on this planet, salt grit is effected by gravity. It cannot travel in an upward direction, therefore it cannot react with snow until the snow has been compressed and mixed with the salt.

A little extra thought will also explain why throwing a dusting of salt grit on new snow does not work.

The grit, being heavier, reacts with the snow directly beneath then falls through leaving tiny holes and the majority of the snow unmelted.

So don’t blame the council, blame gravity — without it, we would not be here.
