WE have been supporters of recycling since the first bags and bins became available, and try to minimise our waste as much as possible.
One of the earliest types of plastic to bear the recycling symbol is polystyrene yogurt tubs, margarine and ice cream containers, and these make up quite a lot of what we recycle.
In fact, to throw these away would add about 50 per cent to our waste volume.
To our great amazement, therefore, we have just read the following in Bolton Council’s recycling information for 2009: “We can only recycle plastic bottles and nothing else, such as bags, yogurt pots or trays, so please do not place these in your container”.
These items have been recyclable for years. How on earth can Bolton Council be incapable of recycling these extremely common items?
