Although I thought I had finished writing letters about the Market Place, I feel the need to respond to Mrs Brockbank’s comments of November 19 concerning my letter of November 1.
Firstly, I did not imply that the Market Place was for the young people only. I merely stated that change happens and we need to move with the times.
I realise it is disappointing when family businesses close and that people miss them but, as far as I am aware, Knowsley Street is home to some of the units that moved out when the renovation began.
Mrs Brockbank stated that when I am of pensionable age, the Market Place may be back to how it was. Well, I am not far off pensionable age and I sincerely hope that is not the case.
With regard to the cost of coffee at Starbucks, the coffee served at the Italian coffee shop in the old market hall was not cheap. If you want freshly ground coffee, you must pay a bit extra.
Finally, for some reason there are always people who are against change and seem to grumble when the town centre changes.
Many years ago when the Market Place was first built, everyone was up in arms. When the library was renovated, people grumbled. When Churchgate was renovated, they grumbled. Do we really want to stay in the middle ages? Is the Market Hall bad or just different?
