I NOTE with some astonishment, in the current economic climate, the rather profligate spending by Cllr Morris and his cabal of lickspittles. Their recent spending, with no obvious benefit to council coffers, includes the following: 1. The £70,000 laser display lighting the doorways around Le Mans Crescent, which was no doubt witnessed by the overworked one man and his dog.

2. The “free” town centre shuttle, which can only add to town centre congestion. And if it is so “free”, how come they are paying £150,000?

3. The incredibly naive notion of improving tourism by lighting the Town Hall at night for £170,000. This must be adding to night-time light pollution.

All the monies could have been used to refurbish Bolton’s old community centre with a reasonable prospect of some return in the form of rental or sale.

I must also mention the letter by Tom Hanley, “Time to listen now, Cllr Morris” (November 22), and wonder how anyone could think that Cllr Morris or any other council could have an impact on this intransigent and uncaring government?

Besides which, Cllr Morris is on record as refusing to oppose post office closures. He even refused to contemplate trying to accommodate post offices into council property. Perhaps he does not mind the inconvenience of searching for a post office.
