IN answer to Yvonne Neary, “Squirrels give us a bit of fun” (November 19), there is no shame, as she says, in stating a fact.

At this point in time she appears to have a small family of squirrels, which she says “give us a lot of fun”.

Wait until they start to multiply and then see if she finds them so much fun.

So far she says they have not invaded her loft, that doesn’t mean they will never do so.

My point is that these grey squirrels brought over from America are killing off our own red squirrels.

These greys plant peanuts etc in my lawn, and I cannot now have bulbs in boxes on my patio because they dig them up and eat them.

Incidentally, my grandson has just returned after a second spell of duty serving for the RAF in Iraq and the Gulf, and when I was worried about him I found some distraction by feeding the variety of small birds that crowd around my feet the moment I appear.

They too are very entertaining.

I do not advocate annual slaughter of squirrels, but at some point they will have to humanely culled.
