WILLIAM Gallagher works tirelessly for the community, but I have to cross swords with him when he calls residents “NIMBYS” for not wanting a play area plonked in front of their garden gates.

When I was William’s age, I probably would have been in favour of such a proposal, but, with experience, we learn to take a broader view and no longer go bounding headlong into things.

I suppose we would all have trouble bounding anywhere these days, but being older we are able to appreciate the views of all ages, having experienced life.

Listening to other people, I find the single-most important thing most people want is peace and quiet in their own homes.

This obviously applies to older people in the main, but many not so old and even younger people feel the same.

Surely, this is not too much to ask?

By all means, build as many play areas as are needed, but build them in parks, on designated play areas or on school fields, not where they will impinge on the peace and quiet of residents in their own homes.
