SO far, I have not bothered to comment on the congestion charge debate because the Say Yes campaign has more media power and coverage than the Say No, so what was the point?
However, after walking through Bolton town centre and being accosted by young people — most of whom are probably students — shoving Say Yes pamphlets in my face and then coming home to see the headline of the Bolton Journal made me react.
The front cover of the Journal highlights the words “The Facts”. It tells us Bolton people will be able to access the Greater Manchester Metrolink network. We already know — you drive, or get a bus or taxi to Radcliffe and there is the station for the Metrolink. Absolutely nothing is going to change to make access any easier. We, the people of Bolton, will still not get a Metrolink line or station, nor will any of our outlying districts.
The article tells us it is building new links as far out as Didsbury, Oldham and Rochdale town centres. Whoopee.
How does that benefit Bolton people? We still have to get to Radcliffe, find a parking spot and get on the Metro there.
