AT last we have a long-awaited bus service connecting the rail interchange at Newport Street with Moor Lane bus station.
The fact it’s free and is eventually being well advertised is an added bonus.
We also have the 527 bus service that links via a shorter route from the interchange to Moor Lane bus station, but that was never publicised.
There is also a similar hourly 570 service operated successfully by Arriva, despite being subsidised by the GMPTE, that operates en route from Sutton Estate via Great Lever, around the town centre.
I trust we will not lose this excellent link.
This service, as with the new shuttle, does not operate in the evenings or on Sundays — rather unfortunate if passengers who want to socialise or shop in the bottom of Bridge Street are forced to walk more than necessary.
For this reason, I wonder why is it not possible for the 575 services to additionally recognise the stop in Bridge Street, just through the lights in Bow Street?
Incidentally, having taken the opportunity to use the metro on its first day, I found I had to walk, as the service does not serve the stop outside Whitakers in Deansgate, although it stops opposite the post office.
What’s wrong with using both stops?
