MY paternal family came from Bolton and my father’s brother, Stanley Hardcastle, served with the Lancashire Fusiliers during the First World War as a stretcher bearer on the front line.
He was awarded the Military Medal, The Belgium Bronx-de-Gruene, for rescuing wounded soldiers from No Man’s Land. I wonder if any reader has any knowledge of my uncle’s obvious bravery?
I believe his medals were given to the Bolton Museum, but are not displayed.
I am 85 years old and served in the Royal Navy for five years during the Second World War.
