NOW that both Cllr John Walsh (Letters, November 11) and his prospective parliamentary candidate colleague in the North East constituency have made clear their public opposition to congestion charging, and will presumably seek electoral support for their stance, they need to answer two further questions that they have thus far avoided.
Firstly, if a Conservative government is elected to office, will it support all of the TIF proposals other than congestion charging, or only some of them? If the latter, which schemes will they drop? If the former, how will they cover the revenue shortfall from the loss of the congestion charge?
Will they meet it from central government funds or will they expect GMPTA/E and/or the 10 AGMA authorities to fund the shortfall from higher fares, or some other source? And, if so, which source?
