SMOKING ban, lunchtime drinking ban, what next?
I'm all for healthy living, but let’s get our priorities right.
If Bolton Primary Care Trust “are concerned about the number of people who regularly drink more than is good for their health”, shouldn’t they be looking to stop people arriving at work with too much drink in them, before they look to stop them drinking at lunchtime?
The lunchtime drinker might be a very responsible drinker, knowing exactly what a healthy and responsible limit is.
The person who arrives at work under the influence clearly doesn't know healthy, responsible limits. Even more so if they've driven to work.
A minor bump, a crash, could mean gridlock and a lot of stressed-out workers. Aren’t stress-related illnesses very much on the increase? Reduce stress and we might reduce alcohol abuse.
If passive smoking does harm, then it invariably takes decades to cause serious illness or death.
The “over the limit” driver causes instant injury and death every day. And if they do get to work safely, what sort of product/service do we get?
Inferior — faults, mistakes and so- called accidents for sure.
Shouldn’t an employer’s first duty be to breathalyse workers before breakfast, not after lunch?
