IN reply to the letter in The Bolton News (October 21) by J Wilson, I do agree it’s not fair to cut binmen’s wages, but disagree on some things.
He said go back to the 80s and 90s when bins were in back gardens, and binmen carried them on their shoulders, up ginnels and steps to the dust cart, to then throw the rubbish in themselves.
There were no wheels on bins, no buttons to press.
Yes, they now pull bins a few inches and put them back, sometimes in the wrong place.
Most houses have three or four bins which are collected by different people.
I am thinking each bin must be lighter than having all the rubbish in one bin.
There are other council workers too who work hard and are having pay cuts.
