I HOPE that the landmark building that was the Clarence Street College can be saved for Bolton.
It was in the throes of being demolished to make way for a car-park until the Save Britain’s Heritage group made an emergency legal challenge.
This halted work already started to tear down the handsome building which offers an impressive gateway to the town.
Too many local individual and historic buildings have already gone, so it’s important that this one is saved if it can be.
To lose the familiar red-brick edifice would be nearly as much of a scandal as the demise of the first-class educational services for special needs’ students that it used to offer.
