DETECTIVE Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons may be morally right when he stated that people were "entitled to challenge bad behaviour" but the two have-a-go heroes who tried to foil a Farnworth supermarket theft might not agree.
The man and woman confronted thieves fleeing the Highfield Road store, giving chase before the men escaped.
They then returned with a group of nine others who beat up the couple who had tried to stop them.
We may well have the entitlement in this "free and democratic society" to stand up to the yobs, but the frightening results here and in Warrington show that we can swiftly move from hero to victim.
